Awaydays - Textual analysis

Mise En Scene

Teenage boys to those in their mid twenties make up most of the cast. They are all wearing similar stone island style jackets and jeans. The Adidas trainers are a key part of this film, they are the focal point of some of the conversations and an iconic look of football hooligans at the end of the 20th century. The look of the film is dark and grey, this gives it a harsh feeling which is indicative of the films storyline, violence being the key theme. The film is set in Tranmere, and is shown to be a rather rough area in the north west of England. The year is 1979, the post punk-era and leading into the 1980's where football hooliganism was at its worst with teams such as Millwall and West Ham taking most of the headlines for their brutal nature.

Camera Work

The camera work in this trailer is much like that of Made In Britain, using many close ups to show the emotion of the characters. However this trailer seemed to be much more fast paced and have many more shots. They have done this as it is very much like a football fight would be and therefore it can convey the speed of the film or the fighting. The shots tend to have the main characters of Carty and Elvis taking up most of the frame, showing their dominance in the film. High angled shots are rarely used in the trailer as that would show weakness in 'the pack'.

Editing

As I mentioned before the editing is quick cut shots, there are little fades or dissolves as these slow down the pace of the trailer. The quick cuts are also key to the climax of the trailer, where the speed is increased and then they have put a slower shot at the end which leaves the audience thinking what might happen and brings them back down again so they wonder what may have happened.
